So yesterday, I posted a picture of Nitesh being interviewed by local news channels. In the afternoon, I get a call telling me that he has a surprise, so he takes me to a local petrol pump and shows be his newly purchased second hand truck. I was in awe. If we can get more people like him, help them create proper income and employment opportunities not just for themselves but for others, the communities in smaller towns can move forward. Yes, there is a lot of jealousy and animosity and it is not possible to take everyone along but those who are willing and patient for the long ride ahead will achieve great things. #ruralindia #entrepreneurship #entrepreneurs #adivasi #makiinvillage #makeinindia

Actions speak louder than words' and that's what I tell the people I work with. 4 years ago I met Ravi at the local NGO office and we was asking for work. A bamboo artisan making local bamboo products such as bamboo bowls and bamboo poles for the local market. I decided that I would work with him to take his work to the next level. He made bamboo soap dishes, bamboo speakers, bamboo face masks, bamboo soap racks and we would go from office to office showing his work. A circular model that builds local entrepreneurs rather than people work for someone, they should start on their own and take advantage of the various Yojanas that is available to them. With more clarity he approached bamboo India, availed a loan , trained in Tripura, built his unit and is now on the news the being a success story. Now this is happy Holi for me.. #entrepreneurs #success #people #makeindina #handmade #buylocal #startupindia #buyfromvillage #incredibleindia

Story time. During my the last few months of my SBI youth for India fellowship, I found the local projects done by NGO I was attached with not sustainable in the village of Udaypur and if so, it always required outside funding to support it. During my 1 and 2nd review, the last slide of my presentation was, ' I will not continue with the project' (the one attached with the local NGO ) because my fellowship was 13 months and if I were top look back, we would not have forgiven myself for not accomplishing anything. I sat with Rekha di, Tara di and Kali Di and told them the idea I had and how we could accomplish it and they were immediately on board. In fact, we would make smaller batches late into the night, sometimes till 1. 'Why can't a small Adivasi community own an international brand' (that was, is and will always be the goal). So with my savings, we started this. (there was no way i was going to take a penny from them). Our aim was to start a Sabun Sakhi network (leveraging the pashu Sakhi network of the local NGO) that would exclusively market our cow milk soaps, however that failed. But what was important was that they had to push and make it happen. For me, if the community has to prosper, then the community has to work towards it. #ruralentrepreneurship #makeinindia #startupindia #incredibleindia #handmadesoaps #soapsforgood #soaps
